South Island Itinerary

Day One: Auckland/Wellington to Christchurch - Air New...

Zealand flight to Christchurch.

The warmest welcome awaits at Otahuna Lodge, set on a hillside with views across the Canterbury plains to the spectacular Southern Alps. Built in 1895 by high-profile pioneer Sir Heaton Rhodes, the Lodge is considered one of the best examples of Queen Anne architecture in Australasia. This historic homestead now offers visitors luxury and comfort among lavish surroundings. Each of the five suites and two master suites retains original architectural features, such as ornate fireplaces, carved inglenooks and stained glass windows. All offer super-king beds, exquisite toiletries, custom-made linens, deep bathtubs and separate rain showers. Dine with other guests in the gracious formal dining room, or retreat to a private table in one of the lodge's many other intimate spaces. Dinner is a daily changing five-course degustation menu celebrating the best of locally grown seasonal produce.

An afternoon to prepare for an extraordinary five days of golf. Craig will give a full briefing on all exciting courses, coaching and golfing opportunities ahead.

Day Two: Golf Terrace Downs - Now locally owned and operated...

Terrace Downs Resort is a unique New Zealand getaway destination located in the heart of a rural Canterbury high country community. Perched on the edge of the Rakaia River Gorge, the resort is within close proximity to various ski fields and boasts stunning views up to Mt Hutt.

The 18 hole championship golf course lies at the heart of the resort. Offering four tee positions for golfers of all abilities, this internationally rated golf course is set at an altitude of 450 metres, with views to soaring snow-capped peaks. The magnificent setting combined with generously wide fairways, 70 bunkers, numerous grass hazards and eight lakes have gained this course a fantastic reputation in New Zealand golfing circles.

An afternoon to soak in the North Canterbury scenery or enjoy the many guest amenities at Otahuna Lodge.

Day Three: Golf Clearwater then onto Queenstown - We head...

on a short journey from Otahuna Lodge to Clearwater Golf Course, an excellent par 72 championship course that plays host to the HSBC NZ PGA Championship. Affording uninterrupted views of the Southern Alps, the course was designed by John Darby in consultation with NZ golfing legend Sir Bob Charles. Playable all year round, it winds around spring-fed lakes and trout-filled streams, combining elements of Scottish-inspired links golf with parkland golf reminiscent of Florida. Five tee positions make it suitable for players of all abilities.

An afternoon flight to Queenstown - home to some of NZ's most dramatically scenic golf courses - and onto Blanket Bay Luxury Lodge. Rated by several prestigious publications as among the best on the planet, Blanket Bay Lodge offers staggering views of Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding mountains. “Blanket Bay was really the most splendid property, possibly the best in the world and everyone should stay there when visiting New Zealand,” said Lord of the Rings Oscar nominee Sir Ian McKellan.

Enjoy the peace and solitude of this spectacular corner of the country, or take advantage of the countless activities close by, from fly-fishing to hiking, jet boating to horseback riding, art trails to vineyards.

Accommodation is provided in five lakeside Lodge Rooms, each with private balcony or terrace, king-size bed, armoire and en-suite bathroom with double vanities, separate shower and bath. Three 700sq ft Lodge Suites offer a bedroom and sitting area, with stone fireplace, walk-in closet and spacious bathroom, along with a large private balcony overlooking the lake and mountains. There are also four generous 700sq ft Chalet Suites, built from schist stone and timber beams to complement the colonial architecture of the main Lodge. Each Chalet Suite may be combined with an additional spacious living room to create the 1400 sq ft Chalet Stateroom.

Days Four and Five: Golf Queenstown - Three challenging...

courses to play, along with the many optional adventures this region has to offer.

  • Millbrook Golf Course:
With the famous Remarkables mountain range as its backdrop, the golf course at Millbrook exploits the natural terrain with a mixture of undulating to rolling fairways, each hole having its own strategic scenic feature. Designed by Sir Bob Charles and recently upgraded by Greg Turner, this par-72 championship courses has four-tee positions, open fairways, demanding hazards - including more than 60 bunkers - and meandering waterways.
  • Jack's Point:
Jack's Point is one of New Zealand's newest resort courses, opened to the public in September 2008. Jack's Point has absolute commitment to the landscape, with only 5% of this spectacular 3000-acre resort to be built upon. Located on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, just 15 minutes from Queenstown, Jack's Point is already being talked about as one of the most special places in the country to play golf. The course has been designed to take best advantage of the terrain, weaving through tussock, rocky outcrops, steep bluffs and native bush to the lake's edge.
  • The Hills Golf Course:
Water features large at The Hills championship course, opened in 2007 and home to the Michael Hill NZ Open. A mill race winds through the property, feeding the 10 lakes and numerous ponds and waterways of this fomer deer farm on the outskirts of historic Arrowtown. The lush setting makes it perfect for native and exotic trees, another feature of the course. Expanded wetland areas have been planted out with New Zealand flax, toetoe, cabbage trees, grasses and reeds, with thousands of red and silver tussock plants creating a striking statement.
